Use your hands to dig for crystals and polished stones that are hidden among the gravel in our simulated mine. Your instructor will help you sort, identify and set up a mineral collection to take home.
Length: 45 minutes*
Ages: Grades 3 and up

3. Mystery Mineral Bag
Receive and identify 6 minerals found in Jackpot Mine.
Length: 15 minutes
Ages: All ages
4. Geode: Approximately 2" diameter
Learn how geodes are opened and watch as one is cut. Students then randomly select a pre-cut geode to identify and take home.

5. Dig in the Bone Zone
Work as a team of paleontologists to uncover and identify a dinosaur skeleton. Includes a genuine fossil for each student.
Length: 30 minutes
Ages: Kindergarten & up
6. Pan for "Gold" in Thunder Creek
Learn the technique of panning and find as many pyrite "fool's gold" nuggets as you can. We'll give you a prospector's pouch in which to keep your riches.

7. Pan for "Gold" with Assay Exercise
Learn the technique of panning and find as many pyrite "fool's gold" nuggets as you can. Weigh your treasure using a balance and calculate its "gold" value (may require math assistance). You'll receive your own Nature's Art Assayer's Certificate and a prospector's pouch in which to keep your riches.

8. Outdoor Adventure
Teachers can download informational outline of dinosaurs and Dinosaur Crossing questions that you can print and bring with you on the day of your trip!
