On Jan. 15, The Dinosaur Place's Marketing Director Corrina Ferguson and daughter Sianna Ferguson met at The Dinosaur Place with Joseph Petroff, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut, to present an $8,500 check to the mentoring organization. The money was raised as the result of The Dinosaur Place's annual Christmas fundraiser "The 12 Dinosaurs of Christmas.

Oakdale, Conn. (January 22, 2010) – The trees have been taken down at The Dinosaur Place in Oakdale. T-Rexes, Velociraptors and other members of the dinosaur family have been placed back into their respective locales. “The 12 Dinosaurs of Christmas” is over and the unique and wacky fundraiser’s totals have been officially calculated.
This past holiday season, over 2,500 people came to see the dino-infused, Christmas-themed display, and their donations - plus the generosity and enthusiasm of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southeastern New England, 106.5 WBMW, The Byrnes Agency Insurance, and Melissa & Doug Toys - allowed The Dinosaur Place to make an $8,500 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut, enabling the mentoring organization to continue helping local youth.
“On behalf of a grateful Board of Directors and all of our kids, which we call “Littles”, we would like to thank The Dinosaur Place and the sponsors of The 12 Dinosaurs of Christmas for their very generous and vital contribution to our mentoring program. This was truly a significant undertaking that motivates our entire staff and all of our volunteers, demonstrating their strong community support and the willingness to try new ways to help children.” Joseph C. Petroff, Executive Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut said.
The Dinosaur Place took the well-known Christmas carol and gave each of the 12 days of Christmas its own prehistoric twist, creating a visual display for patrons to navigate through. From “three raptors wrapping” to “tweleve T-Rexes in tutus,” each whimsical dinosaur display was elaborately decorated by The Dinosaur Place’s staff, the event’s sponsors and a hard-working group of volunteers. And what was this year’s overall crowd favorite? Once again, the “12 T-Rexes in tutus” won by a landslide.
About The Dinosaur Place
The Dinosaur Place is owned and operated by the Phillips family and is the destination for family fun located just minutes from the museums, antique shops and waterfront of Mystic Country.
Imagine the classic Christmas carol with a prehistoric twist. From “Seven Stegosaurs Sipping,” to “Twelve Tyrannosaurs in Tu-Tus,” there is a different dinosaur vignette around every corner and a room filled with laughter! HO HO HO!
The 2009 Second Annual "Twelve Dinosaurs of Christmas" fundraising event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut. This unique parody plays upon the popular Twelve Days of Christmas carol complete with festive lights, cheerful singing and, of course, dinosaurs!
Since 1965, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut has been dedicated to serving the needs of low income, disadvantaged children with carefully screened, trained and supported volunteer mentors. Many of these children have at least one parent incarcerated and are 70% likely to become incarcerated themselves without a positive role model to guide them in their lives.
Together we can help beat the odds.
